Well, I had wanted to rely on myself...To step off the ledge...And SPLAT! Flat on my face!!!
After a few weeks of just working on our home and enjoying each other, Bertie & I started a business and made a major investment. They both failed. We lost everything; our home on the lake, our new Mustang, and my life's savings. We moved into town and rented. For years, we drove an old Scout with a plywood top that looked like a rolling outhouse (our son, Billy, had rolled it & crushed the top) and an old Volkswagon with no bottom (It was rusted out. We used a piece of plywood to keep the rain from splashing up).
We both worked as many jobs as we could for as long as we could, sometimes taking on three jobs each. It was rough, but we didn't give up. We pulled together, rather than pulling apart. I found out that with Bertie by my side, we could take on the world.
In time and with the help of our daughter, Sherry, we were able to buy a trailer rather than rent. After about 4 years there we moved into our present home. We were finally back to some semblance of where we were to start with...And it only took us 13 years!!!
Would we do it all again?
NO WAY!!! Are you crazy or what?
